The Project
Lassila & Tikanoja (L&T) is a service company putting the circular economy into practice across both B2B and B2C sectors. As part of  their digital transformation, the goal was to continuously develop, scale, and modernize L&T’s wide ecosystem of different digital services. This included everything from corporate environmental data platforms to straightforward consumer e-commerce utilities and digital customer communications.

My Role
I joined an multi-vendor agile product development team that had already established to drive L&T’s continuous digital development and customer retention. Entering the project after major services like Ympäristönetti and Oma L&T had just launched, my role as the sole designer was to maintain design momentum, collaborate closely with different product owners, and lead the evolution of the digital ecosystem from the design point of view.

  • Continuous Feature & Concept Development: I was responsible for designing new features to continuously improve the existing services. This was the core task of the agile team, updating the prioritisation with the stakeholders in weekly basis.
  • User Testing & Validation: When updating the lt.fi main front page, I explored different options for structural improvements. I ran simple user testing sessions to gather feedback on their needs, using the data to guide the final layout decisions.
  • Brand Implementation & Redesign: In some instances,  I took the brand renewal created by an external agency and translated it into functional digital interfaces. For example, I redesigned the Helpponouto consumer service based on these new brand guidelines and stakeholder requirements.
  • Design System Stewardship: I maintained and updated the internal design guidelines and UI component libraries, ensuring that all new features and legacy updates remained visually cohesive and efficient to develop.

Why It Matters
Circular economy services are heavily data-driven, yet they need to be simple enough for both everyday consumers and corporate managers to use. Consumer services make people’s daily lives easier, while heavy enterprise tools allow large corporations to track and manage their sustainability goals.

By acting as the bridge between business goals and development, design helps turn complex environmental workflows into smooth digital experiences. Keeping design libraries up to date and collaborating closely with developers ensures that new features can be built fast, without compromising on usability or brand consistency.
